Mardi Gras masks
Mardi Gras. Two little words with an infinitely large explanation. For different people it’s different things—an event, an idea, a day, a way of life, piece of history, state holiday, or a million parades and countless memories. Think you know Mardi Gras? That it’s all about booze and beads? Think again!
Masks in particular originated in ritual celebrations. In the beginning, masks worn during Mardi Gras allowed carnival goers to escape society and class constraints. When wearing a mask, revellers were free to be whomever they wanted to be. And to mingle with whatever class they desired to mingle with.
Whether they cover the wearer’s eyes or whole face, masks add an element of mystery and intrigue when worn, especially around this particular holiday in the city. It’s safe to say that masks are one of our favorite Mardi Gras theme party traditions. So we made giant ones as well!
New Orleans theme decor
While not limited to New Orleans, the city is definitely a great place to be to celebrate.
Each year during Mardi Gras, approximately 1.4 million visitors take to the streets of New Orleans to participate in the city’s iconic Fat Tuesday parades and festivities. The annual celebration of excess and indulgence is observed everywhere from Rio de Janeiro to Venice, but New Orleans’ unique Mardi Gras customs make the city’s celebration particularly renowned.
